To devise a national strategy for managing the pensioner payroll and client treasury services of occupational pension scheme clients. Specifically (but not exclusively), the candidate will be responsible for performing the following functions:
- To manage a high number (in terms of payrolls) multi pay date payroll function.
- To expand on how data is held at the Multi Disciplined Team (MDT) level and manage information flow between the MDT’s and the Payroll and Treasury teams.
- To review internal controls, recommend and implement improvements (in order to reduce/eliminate risk exposure to the business) as appropriate.
- Manage all tax-year end processes and procedures, prepare tax documents (i.e. P45, P35, P14 and P60) and submit all annual returns within relevant deadlines
- Supervise/manage the Payroll and Treasury teams. Conduct Personal Development Reviews, set and monitor Key Performance Indicators, identify training needs and make sure that the teams update the Management Information System accurately and on a daily basis.
- A detailed knowledge of all banking procedures and processes such as BACS, CHAPS, TAPS, etc is a pre requisite. The candidate will have to identify the most effective and efficient means of sending bulk and individual payments.
- To manage the relationship with HMRC, review how they allocate PAYE references to new payrolls/schemes and review the process of receiving tax code changes for new payrolls/pensioners.
- To ensure all processes and procedures are documented in a guide/manual and kept up to date. Checklists for various activities will have to be created as appropriate.
Profile/Skills/Experience
- Education to degree level preferred but not essential. Professional qualifications also preferred but, again, not essential.
- Pension payroll/treasury experience of at least five years (including supervisory/management experience) is essential.
- An interest in the financial services industry.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Strong presentation skills.
- Keen to engage in Continuing Professional Development
